Morgan Hill – A mud bowl is expected today when the old face the new in the annual Live Oak boys’ soccer alumni game.
Stars from the past decade are expected to make an appearance at Live Oak starting at noon. And whether rain or shine, the teams of the past and the present will take the field.
Head coach Tony Goble said he will mark off a field they never use and let everyone have fun.
“We can’t reschedule this game like we can for others,” Goble said.
Goble expects between 18 to 20 former Acorns to make an appearance and take on his collection of varsity boys.
Among those expected to attend is girls’ varsity soccer coach Tony Vasquez, boys’ assistant coaches Kris Mott and Sergio Avila, and the Bianky brothers, who played on the Acorn squad in the early ’90s.
The game will also pit brother against brother, with Mott taking on his junior and sophomore siblings on the current varsity.
The game is free for anyone who wants to see an exhibition game. Umbrellas, however, may be a necessity, with rain expected today.
The Acorns currently sport a 7-0-4 record as they wrap up their preseason and head into TCAL league play. Live Oak next faces Salinas High away on Jan. 12 at 5pm.
