As the Live Oak boys tennis team hits the court, coach Jennifer Yoder anticipates a young and exciting team that will challenge the rest of its counterparts for a Blossom Valley Athletic League title.
With only three seniors on the roster, the Acorns will rely on some of its younger players in a big way this season. And yet, Yoder won’t use that as a reason to have low expectations.
“We expect to do well,” Yoder said. “I am looking forward to the season. Hopefully it will be Live Oak’s year to win a BVAL title. It’s been exciting working with the boys; they work hard and they have great attitudes which makes my job fun.”
With three freshmen looking forward to their first taste of high school competition and the rest of the returning players acclimating themselves to a new league, the upcoming season is both exciting and unpredictable for the Acorns.
Of the three freshmen, Trevor Watson will be relied on most heavily as he starts the season as the Acorns No. 1 singles player. At the two spot will be junior Yrbyn Davis, No. 3 will be sophomore Jimmy Sheddon, and rounding out the singles players will be senior Eric Matsumoto.
For the doubles, the Acorns will have junior Aaron Melgar and freshman Ryan Cambell, a senior duo of Scott Alexander and Kevin Parsons, and freshman Kenny Lee and sophomore Mason Lammers.
