Cajun food coming soon to Morgan Hill

I recently read an article about the topic of turning right in a
bicycle lane and I believe they are wrong. You are supposed to turn
right in the right most lane, even if it is a bike lane.

“I recently read an article about the topic of turning right in a bicycle lane and I believe they are wrong. You are supposed to turn right in the right most lane, even if it is a bike lane. I believe the white line can be crossed up to 200 feet before the intersection. Is this true?”

Red Phone: Dear Is This True, yes it is.

Red Phone checked the Vehicle Code and according to VC 21717 and 22100 (a), “Whenever it is necessary for the driver of a motor vehicle to cross a bicycle lane that is adjacent to his lane of travel to make a turn, the driver shall drive the motor vehicle into the bicycle lane prior to making the turn and shall make the turn pursuant to section 22100,” which states that “Both the approach for a right-hand turn, and a right-hand turn shall be made as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway.”

Finally, according to VC 21209 (a), “No person shall drive a motor vehicle in a bicycle lane … except … to prepare for a turn within a distance of 200 feet from the intersection.”

Hope that helps, good caller.

Morgan Hill ‘chop shop’ busted

“Red Phone, on Feb. 26, about 10 a.m. there were five Santa Clara County Sheriff cars parked close to 10145 Dougherty Ave., and at the intersection of Dougherty and San Bruno avenues. Red Phone, they were there for about an hour. Any idea what the problem was?”

Red Phone: Dear Wondering, Red Phone contacted Santa Clara County Sheriff Sgt. Rick Sung, who said police arrested four men on suspicion of operating a chop shop in the area.

Paul Canseco, 20, Jonny Canseco, 20, and Hugo Amezcua, no age given, all of Morgan Hill and Edgar Gomez Canseco, 22, of Gilroy, were arrested at 11:08 a.m. that day, near Kalana and Dougherty avenues in Morgan Hill after police received a tip about a possible chop shop. When they arrived they located three stolen vehicles.

The suspects were arrested and they as well as the evidence were handed over to the Regional Auto Theft Task Force.

Good caller, all the information is in today’s police blotter as well.

Hope that answers your question.
