The women’s senior 3.0 team from Morgan Hill Tennis Club reached the district and sectional tournaments for the second consecutive year.
A year after capturing the club’s first district title, the team endured another challenging season in the highly competitive Lower Peninsula League, which consists mainly of private clubs.
The locals repeated as league champions with playoff wins over Almaden Valley Athletic Club and Los Gatos Swim and Racquet Club. They advanced to the April 8-10 district tournament at Laguna Racquet Club of Sacramento, where Cindy Johnson, Cindy Okada, Lucy Olivares, Rosemary Resta, Linda Schmidlin, Deb Baker, Cecilia Championwent and team co-captains Marge Credelle and Lynda Hansen advanced for the second straight year.
At the sectional tournament, held May 6-8 at ClubSport Valley Vista in Walnut Creek, the MHTC team had only seven players available to face three of the top clubs in Northern California. The locals played with a lot of heart and gave it their best but came up short.
