This baby opossum suffered a broken leg while clinging to her mother who had been hit by a car. WERC’s veterinarian splinted her tiny leg and sweetly attached a heart appliqué to the cast. Because of the TLC she received from WERC’s volunteers, her leg healed perfectly and a few months later she was happily released.

This Valentine’s Day, instead of a box of chocolates or a dozen roses, give the perfect gift for the animal lover (whether your sweetheart, children’s teacher, or a special friend or family member) in your life. Make a donation in his or her name to your local wildlife care center or pet shelter. It’s a size that will always fit, is non-caloric, doesn’t cause allergies to flare up, and never goes out of date.

Give a gift sponsorship of one of the Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center’s educational animals and we will send a beautiful color certificate to your favored person. For details, go to www.werc-ca.org and click on “support” and “sponsor an animal”. It’s a gift suitable for birthdays and anniversaries, too.

Your loving gift helps ensure the continued presence of our native wildlife for future generations.
