Starting Wednesday, portions of West Dunne Avenue will be closed to all traffic to allow construction crews to complete key features of the project without an even bigger delay, city staff said.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The closures will last Mondays through Fridays for about eight weeks on alternating segments of the roadway, city staff said.

The closures are necessary so that contractors can place electricity, phone and cable lines underground from Monterey Road to Peak Avenue, city staff said. Disruptions to residents and businesses will be kept to a minimum.

The closure schedule and suggested detours are as follows:

-West Dunne Avenue from Monterey Road to Del Monte Avenue will be closed for about one week starting July 13. Thru traffic can use Ciolino Drive, Spring Avenue or Main Avenue.

-West Dunne Avenue from Del Monte to Barnell avenues will be closed for about three weeks. Thru traffic can use Spring or Main avenue.

-West Dunne from Barnell to Peak avenue will be closed about five weeks. Thru traffic can use Spring or Main avenue.

Emergency services, waste collection and postal delivery will not be disrupted for residents and businesses along the closed routes, city staff said.

The West Dunne Avenue reconstruction project will cost about $5.6 million of redevelopment funds. The cost covers resurfacing the roadway, placing utility lines underground, inspections, surveying and other expenses.

Anyone with questions about the project can contact Yat Cho, of the city of Morgan Hill, at (408) 778-6480; or construction manager Tuan Nguyen at (408) 210-6739.
