Elementary school educators in Santa Clara County are invited to
participate in Watching our Watersheds
Elementary school educators in Santa Clara County are invited to participate in Watching our Watersheds, a one-day workshop to be held on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Guadalupe Gardens, 715 Spring St., San Jose. This popular class is offered by Aquatic Outreach Institute in partnership with the Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens.
Teachers will gain valuable information on watershed protection and learn how to promote environmental stewardship among their students at the hands-on workshop. Teachers also will be trained in how to engage students in inquiry-based learning, and to teach about watersheds and pollution reduction across the curriculum. The workshop will incorporate lessons on label reading, disposal of household hazardous waste and inter-active experiments that promote healthy watersheds.
Each participant will receive a valuable resource binder with lessons and materials that support the California Content Standards. In addition, teachers can earn a $150 stipend for a project at their school and/or be selected to participate in a Healthy Soils project, with their students, on site in Guadalupe Gardens. Teachers participating in the Watching our Watersheds also have the opportunity to earn academic credit for this workshop through CSU-Hayward.
The registration fee is $25 a person and the workshop is limited to 20 participants. It will fill up fast, so call the Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens today at 277-5998 or visit www.grpg.org for more information on the workshop and the sponsoring organizations.
