Local water polo teams resume play in the Blossom Valley
Athletic League Tournament today at Live Oak High
MORGAN HILL — Local water polo teams resume play in the Blossom Valley Athletic League Tournament today at Live Oak High.
The Sobrato girls are doing so with heavy spirits after being eliminated from the Central Coast Section playoff race with a 9-6 loss to Pioneer on Thursday at Willow Glen High. The Santa Teresa Division champion Lady Bulldogs were trying to become the first Sobrato water polo team to reach CCS. They play for fifth place at 6:30 p.m.
Pioneer advanced to the semifinals, where the Mustangs will meet Live Oak at 4 p.m. today at LOHS, site of the consolation and championship games. The CCS-destined Lady Acorns can clinch a much-anticipated title bout with the top-seeded Leland Chargers, who beat Live Oak, 12-9, in last week’s Mount Hamilton Division tilt.
Fresh off of beating the Sobrato boys 16-8 Thursday, Live Oak, also bound for CCS, draws No. 1 Leland in a 2:45 p.m. semifinal today. The Bulldogs will go for fifth place at 7:45 p.m.
The girls and boys title matches are scheduled for 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. Saturday after the consolation finals at 1 and 4, respectively.
