Important victories inside of the Blossom Valley Athletic League’s Mount Hamilton Division eluded the Live Oak and Sobrato volleyball teams Tuesday night.
Sobrato hosted Leland in a showdown of two teams battling for position within the top three of the standings. The Chargers (7-5 division) leapfrogged the Bulldogs into third place with a 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, 25-16 win in Morgan Hill, sending Sobrato of 6-5 in division play.
Meanwhile, in San Jose, the Acorns were the visitors to second-place Santa Teresa, needing to keep pace with the lead pack in the division.
But the Saints (8-3 division) had other ideas, and downed Live Oak in a thrilling five-set contest 24-26, 25-11, 23-25, 25-17, 15-12.
The loss leaves the Acorns at 5-6 in the division with a crucial match against Leland awaiting Thursday in San Jose.
Sobrato, too, has another must-have opportunity, when it hosts Westmont on Thursday.
