Two kidnapped Morgan Hill children, ages 5 and 9, were returned by their mother Nelida J. Hernandez, 23, at a grandmother’s house in San Jose, police reported at 4 p.m. Thursday.
The children, missing since Sunday at 2 p.m.. were returned safe and unharmed.
Hernandez, visited the children at her mother’s house about 12 p.m. Sunday at an unidentified location in Morgan Hill, according to Morgan Hill police Detective Carlos Guerrero. Hernandez lost custody of the children in June, and her mother is now their legal guardian. Hernandez does not have visitation rights with the children.
Hernandez asked her mother if she could take the children to a nearby 7-Eleven convenience store, Guerrero said. She placed the children into a waiting vehicle driven by an unknown woman. Hernandez, the children and the driver drove away about 2 p.m.
The family feared Hernandez had taken the children to Mexico, Guerrero said.
The case is under investigation. Anyone with information about the possible whereabouts of Hernandez may call Morgan Hill Detective Sara Alanis at (408) 779-2101 or the anonymous tip line at (408) 947-7867.
