A 27-year-old Morgan Hill woman, Casey Pearson, was killed in a car wreck Monday night on Watsonville Road near an unincorporated area of Morgan Hill, the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office confirmed.
After losing control of her vehicle at approximately 8:32 p.m., Pearson crashed into a tree, a fence and another tree. She died at the scene from the injuries she sustained, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol.
Pearson moved to South County a little more than a year ago and worked as an executive assistant at Lawver Mortgage Team in Campbell, according to her colleague Linda Lazetera. She said Pearson’s boyfriend lives in Gilroy, and the two loved gardening together.
Lazetera described Pearson, who had red hair, as being “full of life, very kind and generous. We just all loved her very much here. We were family basically.”
The wreck occurred while Pearson was driving a 2005 Honda sedan southbound on Watsonville Road approaching Hayes Lane, CHP officers report.
For reasons unknown at this time, Pearson drifted onto the west shoulder of Watsonville Road as she passed the Hayes Lane intersection and attempted to correct her steering by turning left, according to the CHP. Authorities say Pearson then traveled southbound on the northbound lane and across the east dirt shoulder before colliding with a tree head on.
After hitting the tree, the CHP said Pearson’s vehicle spun in a counterclockwise direction, propelled forward and crashed through a fence and hit another tree. Her vehicle came to rest south of Hayes Lane. The CHP said shortly after the collisions, Pearson succumbed to her injuries and died at the scene. Pearson was wearing her seat belt.
The northbound and southbound lanes of Watsonville Road were closed off by responding authorities following the fatal wreck, but were reopened at 11:49 p.m., according to the CHP’s dispatch log.
A statement sent from Pearson’s colleagues at Lawver reads as follows:
“Casey was more than a co-worker at the Lawver Mortgage Team; she was an important part of our family. Casey was an integral part of the office; she kept all of us organized and up to date on everything. Casey was a hard worker and most of all a beautiful person inside and out. Casey was the first person you would see as you walked into our office. Her bright smile and positivity was infectious and we could not help but feel better no matter what we were each going through. Casey will be forever remembered by her infectious laugh and joy she brought to everyone around her. God is truly blessed to gain the angel of our office.”
