The Morgan Hill Library recently took a big step into the 21st Century with the installation of new computers throughout the building. Sleek, state-of-the-art computers are now available for the public in the children’s and adult areas of the library.
The Santa Clara County Library system has been setting aside funds for an upgrade for a number of years.
The computers offer a newer version of the library catalog as well as Microsoft Word XP, Power Point XP and Excel XP for free, public use. Internet, email, and access to more than 30 reference databases continue to be available. The new services are so popular that time limits of one hour per day per person have been established so that everyone can have a turn.
The new catalog includes several exciting new features and looks more like an on-line bookstore than the old card catalogs. Book covers are displayed along with book reviews. It is also easy to create and email your personal booklists. Our reference librarians are happy to provide an orientation to the new computers and answer your questions.
For adults who are just getting started on the catalog, databases or the Internet, one-on-one tutoring sessions are offered by appointment.
Besides the new machines, Morgan Hill children will see a new librarian at story times and at the children’s reference desk.
Rosanne Macek joined our staff as program librarian and will head the library’s children’s services department. No stranger to our library, Rosanne has worked as a substitute librarian for the Santa Clara County Library for the past year. Her background also includes many years as a manager of corporate libraries, including fifteen years at Apple.
We are delighted to welcome her to the Morgan Hill Library and hope you’ll stop by and meet her the next time you visit.
