A 22-year old male pedestrian suffered major head trauma after he was struck Sunday night by a vehicle and is now in critical condition.

About 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Monterey and Cosmo roads, Morgan Hill police officers found the San Martin resident in the roadway. Several good Samaritans stopped to help the victim, including an off-duty city of Santa Clara firefighter.

The pedestrian was transported to San Jose Regional Hospital with major head trauma injuries. It was determined the pedestrian was struck while crossing Monterey Road, south of the posted crosswalk at the intersection of Cosmo Avenue. Sergeant Troy Hoefling of the Morgan Hill Police Department said Tuesday afternoon that the pedestrian is in unstable condition after suffering major head trauma.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene to provide a statement to police.

The case is under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the collision can contact traffic officer Demetrick Caballero at MHPD (408) 779-2101 or the anonymous tip line at (408)-947-7867.
