Unfortunately, America as a whole forgets history too quickly. There are groups that say we shouldn’t be in Iraq today – including our own politicians, mainly for political positioning for the next presidential run. I wish Americans would stop letting bad politics and special interest groups control their minds and do what’s right for America today, and for our children and families tomorrow.

Too many take a back seat and their only contribution is being a critic, with no solutions.

Hitler killed millions of Jews before the United States went to war with Germany in World War II, among his other European invasions. Saddam has also killed tens of thousands and was arrogant for years with the United Nations, U.S. and weapons inspectors; just because he may not have had direct ties with 9-11 doesn’t mean we should not have attacked Iraq. Japan struck Pearl Harbor before we went to war with Japan, and we are allies today.

No matter how many times the United States has been a victim, Americans forget history and what happens when you don’t take proactive steps.

Americans also forget during the Civil War; there were more solders killed at the Battle of Gettysburg in a few days then all the combined wars to follow. We couldn’t agree on becoming one nation and we killed our own brothers.

We either pay $87 billion plus for the war against terrorism (primarily Iraq) now, or pay for it here eventually on U.S. soil … again.

What was the cost of 9/11 – widows, orphans, lives that you cannot put a price tag on. And, what about the staggering cost the country went through and is still going through to rebuild NYC, in addition to new nationwide security measures and Homeland Security.

I say we are in the right place (Iraq), and we’d better take action in Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran or any country that harbors terrorists who seek to kill Americans, rather than be reactive and suffer again, perhaps a much greater loss. I don’t like the cost we need to bear either in Iraq, but the cost has a bigger price tag if we walk away from a fight that was pushed on us all, starting Sept. 11, 2001.

I am also angry with the spineless countries that will not help bear the burden of this war on terrorism. I will not forget, and I will not become complacent or turn my back and say let’s not get involved! Are Americans that short-sighted and naive?
