“Red Phone, I heard there was a recent national Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, but I was unable to make it and didn’t keep the list of where to take old medicine. Can you tell us if there are any places in South County? Thanks.”
Red Phone: Dear Medicated, yes there are two local spots. You can bring old and unused medication year round to the front lobby of the Valley Health Center at Gilroy Pharmacy, 7475 Camino Arroyo, Gilroy, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday; 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday; and to the South County Sub-Station, 80 W. Highland Ave. Building K, San Martin, Call (408) 686-3650 for hours.
Good caller, hope that helps.
Be sure you’re highly visible at night
“Red Phone, it’s important for people at night when walking, riding a bike or skate board in limited lighting areas to wear white. Anything they can do to make themselves more visible is helpful for motorists.”
Red Phone: Dear Wear White, Red Phone received a similar call last year, and agrees that those out at night – whether on a bike, skate board, Segway or any other mode of transportation – make themselves as visible as possible. Doing so, one is not limited to wearing white, though that is helpful. The best idea is to attach a spoke light, head light and reflectors to bicycles and at the very least, wear clothing with reflective tape so motorists have a better chance of seeing you.
Good caller, thanks for the great reminder.
New fence will separate facilities
“Red Phone, can you explain why a new chain link fence was installed at the South County Roads/Maintenance yard on San Martin Avenue at Murphy Avenue. The yard was secured with a perimeter fence and key pad. Why the new fence?”
Red Phone: Dear Can You Tell Me, Red Phone received this call in January and contacted Ron Jackson, with the county’s roads and airports department, who said the new chain link fence at the South Yard Maintenance facility was installed to separate two facilities.
“Recently, our Facilities and Fleet Department purchased a portion of the South Yard for vehicle maintenance and fueling purposes,” Jackson said. “After the purchase, the roads and airports department (in conjunction with FAF) constructed a fence to delineate the new property lines within the yard. In the future, there will be separate secured entrances for each facility.”
There you have it, good caller.
