The future of the elementary music program in the Morgan Hill School District will be discussed by School Board Trustees at their regular meeting Monday, along with the progress of the new Community Day School, new and revised secondary courses and Sobrato High School.

With the district facing a $1.7 million shortfall, plus proposed state education budget cuts that will likely pull another $1.7 million from the district’s coffers, trustees are working to shave the budget and have already approved cuts of almost the entire $3.4 million, including $121,000, or 48 percent, in music.

The cut to music represents 2 FTE, or full time equivalent, positions, so Linda Mann, the district’s director of curriculum and staff development will present options for continuing the elementary music programs to the board for discussion, but the board will not take action Monday night.

Mann will also present information about several secondary courses, including Introduction to Computers, Middle School Success and High School Exit Exam Preparation.

Trustees will take action on two items regarding Sobrato High School. One determines the length of a sidewalk on the south side of Burnett Avenue; the other concerns the construction management services agreement with Turner Construction Co.

The School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the District Office, 15600 Concord Circle. Details: 201-6000.
