The Charter School board, which is made up of parents and community members, saw the opportunity.
The two campuses are about the same size at 11 acres. But, Burnett has more facilities space. The 500 charter school students are squeezed into more than a dozen portables throughout the site.
The report also notes that Burnett would have a constant presence
Repairing the old Encinal campus would cost nearly three quarters of a million dollars. And moving the charter school would leave the Encinal site open for other uses, such as the transportation department headquarters.
But trustees have expressed concerns about the move. Firstly, the Burnett site would be unavailable for the long term future use.
School districts are required by state law to provide facilities to charter schools.
