The heat is back on in South County this week with triple digit forecasts set through Saturday, according to Forecaster Steve Anderson of the National Weather Service.
While today’s high won’t be officially logged until after 5 p.m., 104 degrees was Tuesday’s estimated high in Morgan Hill and 108 degrees just south in Gilroy.
“It is going to be about the same tomorrow and continue around 104 through Friday and cooling down to only 100 on Saturday,” Anderson said.
With a heat advisory in effect, the City of Morgan Hill has designated the Centennial Recreation Center (171 W. Edmundson), the CRC Senior Center and the Community and Cultural Center (17000 Monterey Street) as cooling centers for the general public “to use as a place to find relief from the heat.”
Sunday’s forecast is a modest 92 degrees and the gradual cool down will reach 90 on Monday and a high of 85 on Sept. 15.
Anderson noted that it is “fairly common to have bouts of hot weather” in South County through October.
Today’s record high (for Gilroy) was 108 degrees in 1957 and tomorrow’s record high is 104 degrees set in 1976, according to NWS statistics.
The CRC is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. during weekdays; 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday; and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The CCC is open weekdays only from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
