The Morgan Hill Office of Emergency Services and local residents will pay tribute to victims and first responders, and remember the tragic disaster of 9/11/01 by encouraging citizens to be prepared in case of another such event on Tuesday, the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

The 9/11 tribute will take place at 7 p.m. the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse, at 17090 Monterey Road, on the corner of Monterey Road and Fifth Street.

After a brief ceremony paying tribute to the victims of the attack and honoring first responders, attendees will be introduced to the Map Your Neighborhood program.

That program is a grassroots designed to encourage neighbors to work together to ensure everyone in the neighborhood is prepared if another man-made or natural disaster occurs, according to a press release from the Morgan Hill OES.

In the event of such a disaster, emergency phone lines could be down for 72 hours or more, and OES staff say it is critical that neighbors work together during that time to respond to fires, injuries and leaking natural gas.

Map Your Neighborhood gives communities the resources to produce disaster plans, and ensure basic supplies are available in the event of a widespread emergency, OES staff said.
