“Red Phone, why did the cut down so many trees on W. Dunne? It looks horrible!”
Dear It Looks Horrible, Red Phone contacted Julie Behzad, a senior civil engineer in the public works department for the city. She said about 70 trees were cut down to make room for the West Dunne Avenue street widening project, which will include sidewalks.
“Although the trees removed do provide a bare looking street, the West Dunne Safety Improvement Project does include the installation of approximately 50 new trees,” Behzad said. ‘City staff will look into additional project tree planting opportunities as we move along in the project.”
The project is scheduled to begin as early as next week and anticipated to be completed within 12 to 14 months.
Good caller, hope that answers your question.
“Red Phone, Railroad Avenue between Tennant and Fisher avenues is in really bad condition. Is there anything that can be done?”
Dear What Can be Done, Red Phone contacted Scott Creer, senior civil engineer with the Morgan Hill Public Works Department, who said that section of Railroad Avenue is scheduled to receive major attention with the Butterfield Boulevard extension (south) project.
“This project is presently scheduled to begin construction in Oct. 2011 and be completed in the spring of 2013,” he said. “In the meantime, the city’s street maintenance crew has been out doing pothole repairs on this section of roadway and plan on doing further repairs this summer.”
There you have it, good caller. Sounds like some major repairs are coming soon.
