An about 30-foot-tall tree fell atop the trunk of an off-white sedan that was parked outside City Hall on West Main Avenue around 4 p.m. Wednesday.
No one was injured.
While it had been raining and hailing quarter-inch size stones in Gilroy around that time – Morgan Hill residents in the area of the fallen tree said it had not rained nor hailed that afternoon or around the time the tree fell.
Luis Perez, who lives nearby and was in his front yard looking at the scene, said he thought a wind gust blew the tree over.
“The trunk is on the trunk,” Perez said.Â
The owner of the 2008 Ford Fusion, who declined to give his name, was inside City Hall conducting personal business. He walked out of the building to find the tree on his car’s trunk and the back glass was shattered. Police were on the scene and also a crew to remove the tree.
It appeared the tree had been broken off at the roots, and Perez suggested that it was rotting.
“I parked 3 feet too far back,” the car owner said.
