Morgan Hill – A 62-year-old vagrant man was killed early Tuesday morning as he attempted to cross Highway 101 north of the Tennant Avenue interchange.
A Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office spokesperson said the man had been identified as Adan Rodriguez Guzman.
California Highway Patrol officer Brad Voyles said the accident is still under investigation.
Voyles said Guzman was apparently walking westbound across southbound Highway 101.
He was hit by a car driven by Rafael Martinez, 31, of Morgan Hill.
“He was hit by the front of the vehicle, bounced up and went through the windshield, ending up inside the car,” Voyles said.
There were no passengers in Martinez’s car, and Martinez was not injured but was shaken up emotionally, he added.
Alcohol and drugs played no role in the accident as far as Martinez is concerned, Voyles said, but investigators are awaiting toxicology reports from the autopsy to determine if Guzman was intoxicated.
The accident did not close the southbound side of the highway, Voyles said; only one lane was shut down .There were no witnesses to the accident. No charges have been filed.
