Samantha Torres fired a two-hit shutout and went 4 for 4 with a triple, and the Sobrato softball team began the second half of league play much like the first, beating Oak Grove 10-0 Monday in Morgan Hill.
The Bulldogs improved to 8-0 in the Santa Teresa
Division and 11-3 overall.
Freshman Mackenzie Mitchell, the league’s hottest hitter, homered in a 2-for-4 effort and joined classmate Morgan Martinelli with two RBIs for Sobrato, which had 11 hits. Martinelli stole two bases, and Heather Johnson and Samantha Ribeiro singled twice, also for the Bulldogs.
Torres struck out four and did not allow any walks. The freshman also drove in a run.
Sobrato swept the season series and will visit Lincoln at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
The Bulldogs were coming off an 11-0 victory in five innings over Gunderson on Friday, in which Mitchell went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and teammate Marissa Heffernan drove in a pair and came within a home run of hitting for the cycle. Ribeiro swiped three bases.
Torres got the win in that game as well with five strikeouts in four innings.
Mackenzie leads the Santa Teresa Division in batting average (.632), slugging percentage (.842) and on-base percentage (.650), while Johnson is tops in stolen bases (19).
