The second place SSJYSL Tornadoes met the league-leading Juventus Destiny on Saturday and battled to a scoreless tie.

Defense was clearly the order of the day, as goalie Nichole Downing and the Tornadoes defense notched another shutout.

Neither team mounted a serious scoring threat until very late in the game, when Taylor Johnson drew multiple defenders to her on a run at the net, then crossed the ball perfectly. Unfortunately, the Tornadoes were unable to get a foot on the ball, and the opportunity passed.

On Sunday, the Tornadoes took on West Valley, beating them 3-0. The Tornadoes defeated a West Valley team that has beaten them in three of the last four meetings. The Tornadoes missed two early opportunities: One after Alex Seda popped up a nice center that Bella Comin headed just wide of the goal, and again after a corner kick from Amanda Kline when Amanda Whitling’s header was deflected by the defense. Taylor Johnson asserted herself midway through the first half to end the scoring drought with an impressive solo rush from midfield after retrieving a ball mishandled by the Divas. Johnson split two defenders just past midfield, then beat the goalie to the far post on the breakaway. Just before half, Johnson upped the Tornadoes’ lead to 2-0 after a nice through ball from JC Clayton. Early in second half play, the Tornadoes extended the lead to 3-0 when a corner kick from Kline found the Divas goal.
