“Toby” Solorzano died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, in Gilroy. A
native of Penjamo, Guanajuato, Mexico, he was 90.

A native of Penjamo, Guanajuato, Mexico, he was 90.
Mr. Solorzano was an Army veteran. He moved to Gilroy in 1956 from the San Joaquin Valley and had been a resident ever since. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Gilroy, Veterans of Foreign War, American Legion and American GI Forum of Gilroy; past member of California Rural Legal Assistance, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Self-Help Housing Co-Op, Guadalupana Society, Gilroy Luncheon Optimist and Ultreya. He was a long-time softball player in the Gilroy recreational and San Jose Vintage Softball leagues . He also umpired for Gilroy Parks and Recreation softball games.
He was the loving husband for 57 years to Lucy Solorzano of Gilroy; father of Toby Solorzano and his wife, Barbara of Claremon, Steve Solorzano and his wife, Lilly of Gilroy, Greg Solorzano and his wife, Petra of Desert Hot Springs, Daniel Solorzano of Oxnard, Lucy Solorzano of Gilroy and Anna Solorzano of Gilroy; stepfather of Edward Limon and his wife, Blanca of Rancho Mirage, and Rosemary Putman and her husband, Jim of Indio; grandfather of 17; great-grandfather of 20; and dear brother of Rachel Torosian and her husband Ted of Fresno and the late Guadalupe Solorzano, Carmen Ramirez, Jesus “Jessie” Rodriguez, Irene Ortiz, Benjamin Solorzano, Natividad Casarez and two infant sisters.He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Services were this morning, Jan. 16, at Habing Family Funeral Home followed by Funeral Mass at St. Mary Church. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilroy.
