Since its founding by publisher George Edes in 1894, the Morgan Hill Times has dedicated its pages to maintaining and improving the quality of life for residents. That’s why this newspaper is launching an experiment in digital journalism today that will let the Times more effectively take the pulse of local public opinion. We are giving Morgan Hill citizens the opportunity to express their views on local quality-of-life issues through a series of online surveys taken through their computers and smart phones.

On a monthly basis, these Internet-based surveys will give Morgan Hill Times readers the big picture of various components of the community including the state of schools, parks and recreation, commerce, public safety, local government, transportation, and the overall quality of life in Morgan Hill. All survey responses are anonymous. Questions also provide space for readers to share their comments and opinions relating to the specific issue addressed.

The first survey launches today and focuses on the effectiveness of the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce in serving its mission of promoting a strong economic environment for our community. This survey will be open until May 20. There are 10 questions empowering local citizens and business owners to share their opinion on how well our local Chamber supports commerce and economic development. Several questions specifically ask how well the Chamber is in promoting the wine industry and dining and entertainment opportunities. We also want your opinions on the effectiveness of the Chamber’s staff and board of directors in supporting its member businesses and advocating economic development and tourism in Morgan Hill.

Survey results will be published in print and online in a story scheduled for June 1. Readers online will be able to see the graphs of the responses to each question as well as selected comments from many of the responders.

The Morgan Hill Times’ Chamber of Commerce survey is sponsored by Studio 82, a full-service video production company. If you are interested in promoting your business or organization by sponsoring future surveys looking at the quality of life in our community, please contact Vice President of Advertising Dana Arvig at (408) 842-5755.

We hope you take a moment to share your opinions about the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce by going to the survey link at www.surveymonkey.com/s/MorganHillChamber. And please, feel free to share the survey’s address with all local residents and business owners you believe might have an interest in helping to improve our community.
