Acorns get second win this week
SAN JOSE — The gentlemen of Live Oak needed a tie-breaker on the eighth hole, but still came away with their second league victory this week, beating Pioneer on Wednesday.
The teams were tied at 217 through nine holes at The Golf Club at Boulder Ridge and decided the winner using the Mount Hamilton Division tie-breaker, which favors the team that shot better on the final hole. Live Oak and Pioneer were even on No. 9, but the Acorns bested the Mustangs by one stroke on the eighth, thus earning the win.
Kevin Kjellsen, a senior, finished 2-over-par 39 to lead Live Oak, and teammate Ryan Colton followed at 40. Alex Avon shot a 44 and Daniel LaCorte and Ben Hartl carded a 47, rounding out the Acorns’ top scorers.
Live Oak (2-4 league) also beat Pioneer 218-221 Monday on the back nine at Coyote Creek Golf Club. Kjellsen and Avon shot a team-best 41.
