BOYS TENNIS: ’El Toro Open’ postponed because of rain

SAN JOSE — The Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-1 in Santa Teresa Division play Thursday with a clean sweep at Overfelt High School, taking all 14 sets.

Sobrato freshman Emerald Nguyen punctuated the 7-0 triumph with a flawless win, 6-0, 6-0, over Karina Del Toro in the No. 4 singles match. The Bulldogs’ top two singles, Alexa Watanabe and Ali Pecsok, surrendered two games in beating Jessica Celeste and Alicia Yanez, respectively. Allison Stoner outlasted Overfelt’s Roxanne Cabrera 6-2, 7-5.

Sobrato’s top pair of Katie Martin and Amy Morimoto won a 7-2 tie-breaker to down Dyanna Banderas and Mayra Pacheco (6-0, 7-6). Alyssa Warren and Allison Bettencourt defeated Maria Godinez and Yadira Manzano 6-3, 6-2, and Alicia Warren and Nemerta Cherra beat the Royals’ No. 3 tandem of Julissa Gohnzalez and Crystal Ortega 6-3, 6-2.

Bulldogs perfect through two league games

Melanie Jasper scored five goals, Devon Koehler had a trick, and Sobrato beat Independence 10-4 Thursday in Santa Teresa Division play.

The Lady Bulldogs are now 2-0 in league.
