Araceli Garcia Torres, Elizabeth Ramirez and Alexis Serafino were recognized for their outstanding work both on and off the field by the Harmon & Sue Burns Scholars program, and each received a $2,500 scholarship. Intended to provide students with the incentive and motivation to realize their full potential, every season 10 scholars are selected the summer before they enter the eighth grade and receive a $2,500 scholarship upon successful completion of high school and acceptance to college or training program.
As part of the San Francisco Giants Community Fund’s Education Day, Sunday, the 2011 incoming and graduating Harmon & Sue Burns scholars will be honored at a pre-game home plate ceremony. The scholars will also participate in a pre-game seminar about college preparedness and hear from a Giants player about their college experience. The Giants Community Fund’s Education Day is made possible through the donations from the Burns/Dean family, Franklin Templeton Investments and Oracle. Â
