Early Sunday morning, dozens of beautifully restored classic British sports cars will be be heard as they drive in from north and south to downtown Morgan Hill. This will be the long awaited beginning of the Eighteenth Annual California Autumn Classic British Sports Car Concours and Tour.

The goal of the California Autumn Classic is to welcome all British car clubs and all marquees of two seater sports cars to a weekend of fun. The cars participating are from the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s. British sports cars from this era were the top performing cars of their day and many owners participated in races at Pebble Beach and other California road courses. This gathering is planned to bring back the nostalgia good times of those relaxed club meets of the ’50s and ’60s according to the organizer.

Attendees say this concours show is one of the friendliest of the multi-marque British car events in Northern California. It’s a full weekend of fun because nearly 100 cars will also participate in a Saturday afternoon tour of country roads around Morgan Hill. The tour will conclude at On The Road Again restoration shop in Morgan Hill with champaign, fresh fruit and shrimp. Later in the day a full Italian buffet dinner will be held for all Saturday arrivals at Mama Mia’s.

British classic car owner and expert Bill Meade of Santa Cruz County is the organizer for the show. The event is sponsored by the Golden Gate Austin-Healey Club, Santa Cruz British Motorcar Club, Triumph Travelers Sports Car Club, the Cypress MG Club, Jaguar Associate Group and the MG Owners Club.

Additionally, this event is held to benefit children and animal charities with more than $20,000 having been donated in past years.

“The different club’s members are pleased to donate this money to help those who often don’t have adequate food and shelter that we mostly take for granted,” Meade said.

After doubling in size over recent years, this event has grown last year to more than 200 cars. More than 400 attendees and thousands of spectators will join in this weekend of classic car touring, get acquainted dinner and Sunday car show.

The public can attend the main car show free from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. The trophies will be presented at 2 p.m. as winners drive up to receive their silver plates to cheering spectators. Twenty-six sparkling, engraved silver trophies will be presented to first place class winners and a special silver cup to the Grand Winner.
