The Sobrato High girls varsity tennis team shook off early defeats to Leland and Piedmont Hills and captured its first victory of the season, sweeping singles play to record a 4-3 decision over Westmont on Friday.
No. 1-singles player Emily Ankiel utilized accurate shot placement to get by her opponent 6-3, 6-1.
At No. 2 singles, senior Emerald Nguyen’s power proved the difference in her 6-2, 6-0 win, while sophomore Theresa Hgo used the momentum of winning a tight first set 7-6, to cruise in set two 6-1.
Theresa began to find the corners in the second set and that was all that was needed to keep her opponent running side to side eventually to see the ball passing by.  
Senior Amanda Alipaz at No. 4-singles was steady, relying on a fast first serve, on her way to a 6-1, 6-3 win.
The Bulldogs are back on the court  Tuesday at Silver Creek.
