They may not be many but the Live Oak High track and field athletes will have their best chance to shine at the Tri-County Athletic League finals at Live Oak High on Saturday.
After battling through a league dual meet season with low numbers, the Live Oak boys and girls track and field standouts get a shot at showing their stuff and moving on to the section finals this weekend, all on their own home track.
At Wednesday’s TCAL trials, several Acorn athletes had standout performances in preparation for Saturday. The top nine finishers in each event qualified for the finals.
Leading the way, as usual, was sophomore Cobbie Jones, who won the 1,600 by 15 seconds (she’ll also compete in the 800), and junior Heather Molyneaux, who qualified in the 200, 400 and long jump, on the girls side, and distance runners Jesus Atanacio, Billy Wong and Jonathan Kamei, and hurdler Brandon Powell on the boys side.
Other Acorn girls who qualified included: Lisa Herrera (1,600), Daniella King (1,600), Elizabeth Johanson (100), Ashley Ceasar (high jump), Tanya Tenorio (discus and shot put), and Azucena Atanacio (discus and shot put).
Live Oak boys who qualified included: Atanacio (800), Wong (1,600), Kamei (800 and 1,600), and Powell (110 hurdles and 300 hurdles).
