Police arrested a total of 16 motorists for various violations at a DUI and license checkpoint Friday night.
Out of 352 vehicles that traveled through the checkpoint at East Dunne Avenue and Joleen Way, just west of U.S. 101, 40 drivers were directed to the secondary checkpoint area out of suspicion that they were not in compliance with traffic laws, according to Morgan Hill police Sgt. Jerry Neumayer.
Five motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and their vehicles were impounded; nine were cited and released on suspicion of driving without a license; and one was cited and released for driving on a suspended license, Neumayer said.
Furthermore, one suspect was arrested for a no-bail warrant and was sent to Santa Clara County jail.
Morgan Hill Police conducted the DUI checkpoint, the purpose of which is to crack down on potentially dangerous traffic violators and to educated drivers about traffic laws, Neumayer added.
