Eighteen-year-old had been involved in previous fight, incident
could be retaliation
Morgan Hill – An 18-year-old Live Oak High student whom police believe is a gang member was allegedly assaulted early Dec. 16 morning near Giancarlos restaurant on Monterey Road.

A representative from Saint Louise Regional Hospital called the Morgan Hill Police Department Saturday morning to report Johnny Gonzales was being treated for apparent stab wounds, according to Morgan Hill police Cmdr. David Swing.

The alleged assault took place at approximately 5:30am. Swing said Gonzales told police he was walking near the restaurant when he heard someone calling him from across the street.

“He thought it might be some of his friends,” Swing said. “He told us he couldn’t see very well, because they were in the shadows, so he crossed over to talk to them.”

Seemingly, the people who called to him were not his friends, because, Gonzales told police, he stepped back and fell over, and they attacked him.

Gonzales was involved in an apparent assault the week before, that one allegedly involving brass knuckles, which may have been retaliation for a fight weeks before at Live Oak High involving a 15-year-old Sureño member.

Swing said Gonzales told police that he is not a Norteño member, although he does have friends who are.
