Christopher Travel donated $500 to P.A. Walsh Elementary School after a Walsh second grader, Andrea Topete, won Christopher Travel’s Geography Challenge Grand Prize at The Taste of Morgan Hill Sept. 27-28.

Before the Taste weekend, the company sent out letters to local schools in South San Jose, Morgan Hill, San Martin, Gilroy and Hollister, encouraging students to come in and test their knowledge of world geography. Over the weekend, students who answered their question correctly won a small prize and were entered in a drawing for the cash donation to their school.

On Taste Sunday, Mayor Dennis Kennedy pulled Topete’s name as the winner. She answered the question “What is the longest river in the U.S.A.?” correctly and, along with the $500 donation to her school P.A. Walsh, won a prize for herself, including a trip to BookSmart in downtown Morgan Hill for a hot fudge sundae.

Kennedy, P.A. Walsh Principal Irene Macias-Morriss, Christopher Travel Manager Barbara Kimmich, winner Topete, and her teacher, Tirzah Kirsch, attended the award ceremony. The $500 donation will be used to purchase much-needed books. Each teacher will be able to purchase three favorite books for their class.

The entire event was such a success that Christopher Travel will be hosting this event annually at The Taste of Morgan Hill.
