Mariela Rivera, a 17-year-old senior at Live Oak High School, is this week’s “Student of the Week.”
What inspires you?
I am inspired by the strong women in my life, my mother, Adela and sister, Maria.
What is your favorite subject in school?
My favorite subject is math because it doesn’t matter where you go in the world it is the same. I like math because it is the universal language.
If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be?
If I had the power to change the world I would want everyone to be able to obtain an education.
If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
If I could go anywhere I would go to Egypt.
Name one big challenge in your life right now:
A big challenge I am facing is finding out how I am going to pay for college.
Dream job:
I would like to be an organizational psychologist or a child psychologist.
Your three favorite things:
My three favorite things are: Football (49ers), music, and horses.
Favorite book:
My favorite book is “Like Water for Chocolate” by Laura Esquivel.
Plans post-high school:
I want to go to a four year college and double major in Psychology and Business.
Something that makes you smile:
My family makes me happy.
