Morgan Hill – A kitchen fire in a residence on Dougherty Avenue Wednesday night quickly turned into an attic fire when flames when up the oven vent into the space above the kitchen.
No one was injured in the blaze, which began at approximately 7:44 pm at the rental residence on 512 Dougherty Ave. Virginia and George Pirnie and their 93-year-old aunt were in the home at the time, but were able to get out safely.
Fire fighters had to cut a hole in the roof to contain the fire. Four engines and a water tender responded to the blaze, which started when the Pirnies were making popcorn on the stove.
