Seven inches of rain cost the city more than $140,000, not including police overtime or any claims that may come from flood damage, according to public works staff.

About 20 percent of Morgan Hill’s 110 miles of roadways were flooded Oct. 13 after the most powerful storm in 60 years ravaged the streets with rain, according to city staff.

The storm caused about $55,000 in public property damage and cost $19,000 in public works staff time that day, and $5,200 of it was overtime, said Deputy Public Works Director Mori Struve. Police pay was not immediately available. The city also spent $13,000 on contracted work the day of the storm and another $17,000 after the storm to clean up.

The city expects to spend $37,000 for longer term projects to prevent flooding, Struve said.
