Haunted Graveyard creators Bob Johnston and Scott Janssen are back to once again convert Lassen Way in Morgan Hill into a delightfully frightful display of horror and offer free admission to the public.

Morgan Hill took a step back in time with the showing of the
musical Grease at the Granada Saturday evening. The exclusive
one-night showing, a fundraiser for the Poppy Jasper Film Festival,
encouraged audience members to dress up in 50

Morgan Hill took a step back in time with the showing of the musical Grease at the Granada Saturday evening.

The exclusive one-night showing, a fundraiser for the Poppy Jasper Film Festival, encouraged audience members to dress up in 50’s style clothing and let them have a little fun before the movie started.

There was dancing, featuring the Hand Jive and swing, and showing off of costumes.

Movie-goers were not told about the evening’s added activities, giving them a nice surprise.

“I knew Grease fans would get into it,” said event organizer Rosemary Rossell. “I got more than I had expected.”

The pre-show lasted 25 minutes, but in that time, Rossell said the audience gave an enthusiastic response to the entire evening.

“It just made the whole thing easier,” Rossell said.

Grease, originally a theater production, debuted on the big screen in 1978 staring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John as two high school kids who spend a summer together but separate when school starts. The two meet up at the same high school and Sandy (Newton-John) learns Danny Zuko (Travolta) is not whom he appeared to be.

Poppy Jasper will return to the Granada Aug. 21 in a similar benefit with a showing of the 1942 film Casablanca staring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman and Paul Henreid.

Like Grease, movie goers are asked to dress up in period clothing, though Rossell would not revel what the exact plans were.

“We just can’t show a movie,” Rossell said. “We found we need to do more.”

The cost will be $15. Tickets can be purchased starting Aug. 1 at BookSmart, refreshments are included. Space is limited.

Poppy Jasper is an organization that promotes the arts through short, independent films. The inaugural festival will come to Morgan Hill Nov. 12-14.

The deadline to submit entries is Aug. 15. Entry forms are available on line as well as an address to send them to. Details: visit www.poppyjasperfilmfest.org
