OVYSL team caps perfect season with rout
MORGAN HILL — The Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League Spartans capped a perfect season with a 5-0 win over Redwood City’s Juventus team.
The undefeated Spartans played against top clubs ranging from San Mateo to San Benito counties. The newly formed competitive soccer team began play this spring representing OVYSL in the District 2 California League for Boys Under 8. It went on to win all eight league games, outscoring its competition 34-8.
Coach Jack Salvemini, a longtime leader of youth soccer in the Bay Area, said he had “not seen players at this age with this level of skill” in his 35-plus years of coaching.
