The South Valley Rugby Club has advanced to the Pacific Coast Regional Tournament by beating Redwood Empire 55-10 in the Division III Northern California championship Saturday in the Outdoor Sports Center.

The Morgan Hill-based South Valley team is composed of players of all ages and backgrounds, including a core of Live Oak High School alumni among others commuting from Gilroy, San Jose and Monterey.

Playing in its first year at Division III, South Valley (19-4) has outscored its opponents 570-45 with impressive playoff wins over Reno (Nev.), Vallejo and Redwood Empire.

South Valley will represent Northern California in the May 7 regional in Tucson, Ariz. The locals’ first game is against Budd Bay Men’s Club of Washington.
