Thanks for your coverage on the county Juvenile Probation Department’s Boys Ranch. I came across this story thanks to a memo from Wendy Mosgrove which was left on my windshield.

Had I known Mosgrove’s address she’d have found the memo she left for me crumpled on her doorstep with the ones she says others have left her as well. After reading the coverage in the local newspapers and learning the probation department’s crime statistics for the Boys Ranch, I am appalled that such inaccurate information giving a false sense of security about such a serious issue would be distributed.

The memo stated that Chief Probation Officer Sheila Mitchell said there were no violent offenders at the Ranch and that rapists are not and never been allowed in any minimum security facility.

Well, it would appear that sex offenders and those detained for assault with a deadly weapon, to name a few, are not considered violent offenders.

I’m offended that such a memo would be distributed to the neighborhood without having the facts correct. It has the potential to undermine a true problem in the community. I hope that the others who received it will take the time to read the statistics and learn the facts.

Good work and good luck to Ms. Pelz, Ms. Cervantes and Ms. DeHaro. Thanks for raising our awareness!
