TRAFFIC NEVER STOPS around here … LITERALLY!

“Hi Red Phone. I live in Holiday Lake Estates and we are having problems with traffic at the three-way stops in our neighborhood. Many people are just not stopping at these intersections. I’m not saying they slow down and don’t make a complete stop … I mean they drive right through like the stop sign is not even there! Yesterday, I saw a woman with an infant in her car go right through without stopping. This is so dangerous. Maybe we can get the police to take a look at this?”

RED PHONE

Morgan Hill Police Department Sgt. David Swing said whenever someone in the city has a problem with traffic, whether it relates to running stop signs or red lights, school traffic jams or chronic neighborhood speeders, they should be reported. “I would encourage the Red Phone caller to call our traffic hotline, 776-0640, to report the problem. For this specific problem, I will also pass it on to our traffic unit. The traffic hotline is monitored by our traffic officers and they will call the person back if a contact phone number is left and provide enforcement action as needed.”

HAZARD AT THE vineyard center INTERSECTION

“The bushes that are growing at Edmundson Avenue at Vineyard Shopping Center driveway are creating a hazardous condition for drivers trying to get onto the roadway. It is very difficult to see oncoming traffic and bicylists can’t be seen at all. The bushes get trimmed infrequently and grow back rapidly. Can we get something done about this?”

RED PHONE

The Red Phone contacted John Kent of Pacific Oak Properties, who manages the landscaping at Vineyard. He said that particular driveway exit should be safer now that drivers can no longer make a left-hand turn onto the roadway due to the redevelopment of Edmundson Avenue. Kent also agreed to tell his landscaper that the bushes at that intersection should be cut down to no more than 12 inches high so that drivers’ visiblity is not blocked in any way.

Scaffolding blues

“Hey, Times! I was looking for your office the other day and noticed all the scaffolding around your building. What’s going on and how long will the scaffolding be there?”

RED PHONE

The Times’ building owner, Anthony Villafranca, is having the entire building, at 30 E. Third St., remodeled and hopes to attract more tenants soon. The work started a month ago and is likely to take another two to three weeks. He has installed new windows to the upper floor. The stucco on the facade needs to be done, and there is still roofing work going on. The Times is anxious to see the final results soon and have appropriate signage for our customers. We hope our readers forgive the dust and dirt when they visit us.
