LOHS hosting Pirates; Prospect visits SHS today
SAN JOSE — The Live Oak softball team will play its final home game of the regular season today against Piedmont Hills having already clinched its first invite to the Central Coast Section playoffs in three years.
What better way for the seniors to go out? Five of them will be honored before the first pitch at 3:30 p.m.
That includes Jenna Robertson, the only active player who was part of Live Oak’s previous postseason trip in 2007. Hailey Nelson, Erin Leggett, Jacey Turay and Sam Bejarano also will be recognized.
Aside from that, the Lady Acorns can remedy their nagging woes at the plate. They were held to two hits Wednesday while dropping a second straight loss, 3-1, at Westmont.
Nelson tripled to lead off the top of the fourth — and later scored on a fielder’s choice hit by Robertson — and Leggett began the sixth with a slap-bunt single.
Live Oak (9-8-1 overall, 8-5 league) also received walks drawn by Priscilla Orona and Kayla Cisneroz.
Acorns sophomore Katie Obbema pitched the full seven innings and gave up all three of Westmont’s runs in the first inning.
The Warriors (16-9, 9-4) moved into second place.
Sobrato 14, Lick 3
The Lady Bulldogs homered three times, including a grand slam by Kallie Klinger in the second inning, to break open Wednesday’s Santa Teresa Division game in San Jose.
Nicole Larson had a two-run blast to go with a double, triple and three runs, and Heather Johnson had a solo shot, plus two walks and a stolen base. Johnson scored three times.
Nicole Kiles batted 2 for 2, scored twice and stole two bases, and Frankie Kellett scored once and finished 1 for 4 for Sobrato (8-5 league).
Katie Machado pitched a hitless first inning, and Kellett worked the final four, striking out three with six hits and no walks.
Sobrato will honor Kellett, the team’s lone senior, before today’s 3:30 game against visiting Prospect.
