Western Regional final today
TUCSON, Ariz. — One more win. That’s it.
The Gilroy Little League Juniors All-Stars, a softball team that includes Morgan Hill players Crissy Simpson and Mackenzie Mitchell, held off Queen’s Creek (Ariz.) for a 5-4 triumph to reach today’s championship game at the Western Regional tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
The first pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
If Gilroy beats District 5 Arizona, which has one loss, the local girls clinch a berth in the Little League World Series in Kirkland, Wash. If Arizona wins, the teams will play a winner-take-all final Wednesday.
Gilroy advanced through Pool B play unscathed to set up Monday’s contest with Queen’s Creek, the top seed in Pool A. The game began Sunday but was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning due to rain. Gilroy led 2-0 when the game resumed Monday and was able to hold on.
