Posing after a first-place finish in the Magic Cup two weeks

Undefeated since February, local team has won four tournaments
in as many tries this summer
MORGAN HILL — Orchard Valley Heat is making a strong case for being the best U13 girls soccer team in California.

The latest evidence came at the Aug. 28-29 Magic Cup Tournament in the Outdoor Sports Center, where Orchard Valley beat the defending state champion Santa Clara Sporting Green 3-1 on the way clinching a fourth title in as many tournaments this year.

Heat is ranked 27th in the nation, 12th in its region and third in the state – and has not lost any steam since putting together an undefeated spring season playing in a year-older age bracket. The local team’s last defeat came in February.

Playing in the top brackets at tournaments as a Division 1A club this summer, Orchard Valley also won the July 17 Quicksilver Cup 6v6 in San Jose, the July 31-Aug. 1 Juventus Tournament of Champions in Redwood City and defended its title at the North vs. South Summer Classic held Aug. 14-15 at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Heat’s next tournament is the Sept. 25-26 “On Your Toes” Hannah Welker Memorial Tournament in the Outdoor Sports Center.

The locals return to state competition in winter with the NorCal Cup.
