Carson punched it in for a 2-0 lead.

The Orchard Valley Tornadoes defeated the Almaden Valley Rascals 2-1 on the road to improve their record to 3-0 in league play. The Tornadoes were unable to score early in the first half despite very good offensive pressure, and the Rascals broke on top 1-0 on a corner kick.

The Tornadoes kept up the offensive pressure with the front line (Alex Seda, Clarissa Hammer and Lexi MacPhail) and midfielders (Amanda Whitling, JC Clayton, Taylor Johnson, Mary Thatcher and Amanda Kline) maintaining possession throughout most of the game. The Tornadoes were finally able to break through when Taylor Johnson made a nice cross to Clarissa Hammer, who beat the goalie to tie the score. The score remained 1-1 at the halftime break.

The Tornadoes were finally able to pull ahead when Bella Comin hit a beautiful arcing shot over the goalie’s head from about thirty yards out on the right wing. Sarah Block, Cloey LemMon, Lindsey Pund and Stephanie Wan kept the Rascals from mounting any further serious threats to goalie Nichole Downing.

The De Anza Flash defeated the shorthanded Palo Alto in the afternoon heat Saturday. Palo Alto concentrated most of its efforts on its half of the field and then counter attacking. The Flash took advantage of this strategy to work the ball across their back line and pushing their backs into attack.

Bub Seifert repeatedly passed the ball to Katie Ramos, who sent it to Shelly Pund. When sweeper Mo Campeau wasn’t directly involved in the play, she directed her partners and ensured that they were never surprised.

Pund also opened the scoring. Fifteen minutes into the game, Pund sent a ball up the wing and followed it through. Cayla Derry received it and released to Brittany Barnes. Then Barnes dropped it back to Pund, who put the ball on a rope to the upper right corner, giving the goalie no chance.

Ten minutes later, Kendra Sato sent a hard cross to Barnes who stormed past Palo Alto’s defense and slapped it into the goal for number two,

Midway through the second half, Nicole Hovey exploited a weak clearance and finished the scoring.

The team is still looking for experienced players. If interested, email Ballan Campeau at ba********@*ol.com for tryout information.
