I’m writing in response to the recent column by Glen Webb in the the Morgan Hill Times.
It seems to me that Mr. Webb’s proposals for opening the new Sobrato High School have little or nothing to due with the budget crisis facing our district and everything to do with fear – the fear of a little competition.
With the opening of Sobrato, the pool of athletes participating in school sports programs would be less at each of the high schools. And, coming at the end of a winless season, I can see why Mr. Webb, the Live Oak head football coach, would be totally against it.
However, competition is good and should be welcomed especially in our community. How else will students rise to the challenge both in academics and in athletics? By opening Sobrato as a continuation school? I don’t think so.
