The Sobrato girls water polo team advanced in the CCS Division II playoffs Wednesday, with an 8-7 win over Valley Christian.
The No. 11 seeded Bulldogs took down the No. 6 seeded Warriors thanks to a second-half surge after going down 5-2 in the third.
Both teams were tied 2-2 after the half, but the Warriors came out firing with three goals to take a strong lead.
Valley Christian added a fourth but not before Sobrato found the back of the cage five times to take a 6-6 lead in the final frame.
The Bulldogs netted two goals in the fourth to pull out the win.
Sobrato’s Maya Read had four goals in the effort.
“She was making everything. She did a great job,” said coach Dave Burnett.
Burnett also gave credit to the defense to standing tall after falling behind by three.
“That was a team effort,” Burnett said.
The Bulldogs will now advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday facing No. 3 seeded Castilleja at Christopher High School.
“We’re going to play the beast teams right now. They’re really good. We’ll have to play 100 percent,” Burnett said.
Game time is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
