The Sobrato softball team had a rough time with Santa Teresa’s lively bats as the Bulldogs lost 12-1 on Friday.

Although the loss was one of the more lopsided defeats this year, Sobrato will have nothing to hang its heads about at the end of the season. After two winless seasons, Rob Piper has the program heading in the right direction with seven wins this year in his first campaign as head coach

Although a 7-14 record might not be overly impressive, it’s a significant improvement considering the program got its first ever win at the beginning of this season.

“I don’t think that our record reflects the strides we’ve made and what we’ve done to build this program,” Piper said.

With only two seniors on the roster, the Bulldogs will not only take pride in their improvement but will look to build upon their success as this young roster looks to develop and improve over the next few years.

However, with rebuilding there comes the humbling moments such as the game that the Bulldogs endured Friday.

Casey Post pitched 4 1/3 innings and was relieved by sophomore Danielle Clampett, who got the last two outs for Sobrato in the fifth inning.

Post also contributed at the plate, driving in the Bulldogs only run on the day.

“We didn’t make a lot of errors,” added Piper. “We are trying to focus on things for next year. We put girls in different positions and they responded well. They played as hard and as best as they could and that is all that I want from them.”

Sobrato will look to add one more win to its record as it takes on Willow Glen at 3:30pm Wednesday before honoring their two seniors Chelsea Hrupek and Alexandra Torres in Friday’s final game of the season.
